Lance Smart
Lance, one of the original characters in Summer Bay, worked in the
local oyster farm, which was run by Fisher's brother. Lance worked with
Martin Dibble, and hung around him most of the time.
Lance, along with Martin, have always had a grudge against Fisher since
he threw them out of the school cadet corps.
They have always tried to win girls and were envious of the surfers
who always seemed to get the girls.
Lance is much weaker than Martin and always agreed with whatever Martin
had to say. He is not bright, unlike Martin.
He won a sum of money, but the lottery ticket was missing; both him
and Martin were searching frantically for the missing ticket.
With the money, he bought a house, and they moved from the caravan
they had lived in for years. Lance has always been there for Sally;
he was one of her best friends.
Lance went out with Alison Patterson, who was a very abusive young
woman, and a cousin of Vinnie, only revealed in 2000. She decided to
take advantage of his newfound wealth, and after going out with him,
asked for a dress for a ball, which he did. She later asked him for
a car, which he did not buy.
More problems arose later when the locals tried to squeeze money out
of Lance, and he decided to give them away.
Lance went out with Marilyn Chambers. Martin left Summer Bay in 1990,
and Marilyn was no longer going out with Lance. Lance was feeling down
in the dumps and left Summer Bay around 1990.
Ten years on, (2000), he returned to Summer Bay after running away
from the army. It was later revealed that he caused trouble: he ran
a tank over a car, where a lady was left trapped. He married this lady!
When he tried to tell his mother, Colleen, a gossip queen, she was angry
and tried to make him stay away from her by lying that he had a disease
which was spread by the Chinese refugees who arrived.
The army soldiers arrived to take Lance back; it was only then when
Colleen found out what happened; she was lied to that Lance called over
to see her.
Before Sally's wedding, Lance arrived. When he heard Martin was here,
he went off to find him.
