UK is the second country is the world behind Australia showing the first episode (not the pilot episode) in February 1989. The programme was shown on ITV with varying times on regional networks. For Northern Ireland, the programme was shown at 1:25pm with repeats at 5:10pm. Due to Seven Network terminating the contract to ITV and giving it to Channel 5 instead, ITV ceased showing the programme on 8 June 2000. As ITV had a clause in the contract, Channel 5 was not allowed to show the programme for a year and started on 16 July 2001. The episodes are shown on this channel at 6:00pm with repeats the next weekday at 12:30pm. The language is in UK English with subtitles for the hard of hearing on page 888.
