Justine faces a heartbreaking betrayal

Justine loves having her mum around…but little did she know that her mum is out to get her!

Justine (Bree Desborough) was a bit shocked at first when her mother turned up unexpectedly, but later she was delighted to spend some time with the mother she hardly knows. Mrs Welles swore to Us that she was off the drugs and that her life turned around, but what Justine never would expect was the fact that she was lying.

Mrs Welles came to the Bay for making profit out of her daughter by getting Justine to ‘confess' that she killed little Ruby Collins… a crime she didn't commit! She only when Justine is saying the sentence that everyone wants to hear her say : ‘I did it, I killed the baby'. After taping this sentence, she gives the tape to a reporter from a big tabloid magazine in exchange for money.

Justine has no idea what is going on, so she's just happy that her mum is around to support her when she goes to trial… or so she thinks. But when she sees her mother driving away in a cab with her bags loaded in the boot, she can't understand why her mum would leave without saying a word.

Later when Justine turns up in court, she can't believe her ears when her own mother is called as a witness for the prosecution. This was a shock to her, but it was nothing compared with the shock she feels when she hears what her mum has to say…

Shock outcome to Justine's trial

Justine thought her nightmare would end with the trial, but it's only just beginning…

Justine has had the worst few weeks of her life : she was charged with the manslaughter of Ruby Collins, a baby in her care, even though she knew it was really Ruby's parents who hurt her. So when her mother turned up in the Bay and told her she just wanted to support her little girl, she was very happy. But later she found out that the only reason that her mum was actually there was to sell Justine's confession to a magazine. Justine didn't really confess, but her mum taped her saying something that sounded incriminating… and then testified against her in court!

It was the ultimate betrayal for Justine, but the shock of what her mother did doesn't even come close to what Justine feels when the verdict is read out at her trial. She's found GUILTY! Everyone who knows Justine knows that she never should hurt that little girl. So a non believing jury sent her to a juvenile detention centre. Meanwhile, the real guilty person, Mr Collins, walks away scot-free and with everyone feeling sorry for him.

Justine who still can't believe what's happening to her arrives at the detention centre where she meets her new cellmate, Gemma. Gemma doesn't trust Jus at first like everyone else until Tom comes to visit. Jo, who has made Tom the apple of her eye, only has Jus standing in her way.

Is this the end for Ailsa?

Ailsa has been holding on to life, but it looks like she's losing her grip…

Since Ailsa's car accident (where she drove into the lake), she is in a deep coma, hovering between life and death. She has not once regained consciousness, but that doesn't mean she's out of touch…

Ailsa's son, Duncan who was also in the accident, blames himself for what happened. But that's not all, now he's been haunted by visions of his mother asking him to save her. Also Alf is giving him a hard time until Dr James Fraser jumps in. He points out that Duncan needs him and tells Duncan that he shouldn't blame himself. Alf comforts Duncan, but shortly afterwards Ailsa goes into cardiac arrest.

After this, James tells Alf that even if Ailsa wakes up, she may not be the same Ailsa they knew. There is a big chance that her brain is no longer functioning properly. During the tests, the hospital can't find any evidence of brain activity. This is the worst news that Alf and Duncan could hear. Is their beloved Ailsa brain dead ?

James and Alf discuss turning off Ailsa's life support machines, and also the possibility of her being an organ donor. After this, Alf and Duncan say their goodbyes to Ailsa and turn the machines off. Then they wait for the end…

But Ailsa may have a few surprises for them yet!
