Home and Away to return...
According to Radio Times and TV Times, Home
and Away returns on 9 October, at 7pm, 6:30pm on other days
According to "Digiguide" listings, H&A is coming back on RTE a
week earlier than that, on Mon 9 Oct... best of all though it's
in a 7pm evening slot (no idea if that slot's permanent or not).
Radio Times doesn't have H&A scheduled for that week Gerard
Callaghan
My contact at RTE had a look in the schedule database earlier
this week, and H&A is now due to return on RTE on Monday 16 October,
so 2 weeks next Monday Tim Dix
Well... Ailsa doesn't die in the landslide, that's certain. But
I am not sure how she does die except when she dies will be shown
sometime in November. But... in the landslide Gavin dies, he wasn't
becoming a regular and he goes in after Shauna and it catches
fire, or collapses or something and he's still inside and he dies.
Yes.. Natalie comes back from Queensland wanting Joel back in
her life, of course he accepts and leaves and goes back to Queensland,
but don't worry, Gypsy doesn't go too. And yes.. Noah is becoming
a regular in the show and so is his big brother (the ones who
owns the bike) Beau is also becoming a regular so we'll be seeing
more of him Schumacher
--------
I think it is Gavin that dies in the mudslide. My reason for
this is because I purchased a copy of next week's TV Week and
under Thursday October 5 it has as this summary:
Shaun's not coping with the loss of GAVIN and Vinnie is in everyone's
bad books over the photo of Gavin......they did admit in another
section of the TV Week that Judy Nunn is leaving but perhaps she
doesn't actually die in this mud slide.......Caterpillar

Lately a lot of people have been criticising the big changes
that have occurred on H&A over the past year, saying that the
show won't last more than a few more years. So you might be interested
to know that the episodes surrounding the aftermath of Ken's death
attracted 1.7 million viewers in Australia, which is the biggest
audience since 1992!!! Meanwhile it is rumoured that Ken will
be making a reappearance in future episodes - no doubt as a ghost!

Spoilers for October
If you want to know who dies in the landslide scroll down....
According to TV Soap, it is Gavin who dies in the landslide. Apparently
Shauna is devastated when she finds out. Meanwhile, Ailsa doesn't
die until November, which makes sense because it really wasn't
very long ago that she filmed her last scenes. Jodie Darlington
You won't see Ailsa at all now. I can't remember what I found
out... Luke comes back for Sally. ...but wait, there's more...
he proposes to her! Noah Lawson is to be a regular. ...so is his
big brother Beau. Natalie is back next month ...and she wants
Joel back. Is that to any use of you? There was one more thing
but I can't remember it. Colleen manages the Diner. ©Stewart

Alicia's death...
Well with Alicia she has already died and the landslide happens
tomorrow so, she can't die there! Also Duncan saw Alicia before
her death, she argued with him! Then I think the stalker is Charlie's
old girlfriend! Joel sits down to tell Gypsy something, because
he had rushed out of the diner, cause he remembered something about
the boat cruise Charlie on... then all of a sudden Gypsy had a go
at Harry and dumped him. Because the day before a lady came in to
dry off because it was wet and she came out with her op undone and
a bra. Then Joel walked in. she ran out and harry came out with
a blow dryer she asked for so she could dry herself off! SO Harry
explained Joel believed him and gave him the benefit of the doubt,
but then when he spoke to Gypsy I thought he'd say something about
the boat thing, I don't know what he said, cause they never show
that scene, but she goes to the surf club and yells at him, and
tells him to get out of her house
Date of return
The riveting storm episode was the last we will see for the next
few weeks. Because of the Olympic Games in Sydney and Channel
7's rights to the coverage Home and Away will return on 2nd October.
Is Duncan going to be charged with Alicia's death?
No, he's not. Duncan said that he went to talk to her and found
her on the cliff, and they started arguing (and Alicia actually
used the word 'slut' - on home and away?? shock, horror! anyway
back on topic) and Alicia forgot she was on a cliff and slipped,
fell and died. Inspector Carter (is that right??) asked Duncan
about the clothes she was wearing, and he also asked nick, Kirsty,
and jade about Alicia's clothes. I didn't actually see the episode
where she fell, but apparently wherever they all saw her together
she had an orange top on buttoned up. When she went for a walk
along the cliff she must have gotten hot and taken the orange
top off, and wrapped it around her shoulders, showing her white
top underneath. Duncan was the only one who knew she had a white
top on underneath, proving that he was the last one to see her.
Alicia's death was put down as an accident. Tania M
Home and Away off air
Home and Away will not be screened on Wednesday 13th
Sept in Queensland due to Olympic highlights. However, New South
Wales & Victoria viewers will see a special 1 hr episode on
the 13th and Queensland will have 1 ½ episode on Thursday
the 14th Sept (to make up for missing the 13th Sept episode).
Also, Home and Away will not be screened next week 18th Sept for
2 weeks (I think) because of the exclusive rights that Channel
7 have to the Olympic Games. I will keep you all updated on that.

TV week this week indicated that the stalker was a female!!!
OK now on to Ailsa, again I can't remember if anyone mentioned
this, but there is an article in this week's TV week, about a
land slide to occur as the cliff hanger before the two week break
for the Olympics, it centres around the Stewart house so I'm guessing
that might be how Ailsa dies but I'm not sure? There is an article
in today's Herald Sun Guide about Harry leaving home and
away, but don't stress yet, girls, the Guide assures us that he
will be on how screen until late next year. Erin Flannery
H&A is delayed in Ireland
I've now received full details of the reasons behind why the
return of H&A has been delayed on RTE in Ireland. Apparently
RTE have been having legal problems with the Australian distributors
where despite having a contract entitling RTE to transmit H&A
now, were not allowing the tapes to be sent until July 2001! With
the sound of things the return date has been delayed until October
after the Olympics. RTE are now hoping to receive the tapes from
Australia in time for starting transmissions on Monday 2 October.
The following statement was issued by the head of acquisitions
at RTE:
****
The series has been catching-up rapidly with the original transmission
of the series in its home country, Australia.
According to RTE's head of acquisitions, RTE agreed with the
distributors of the programme to take a break in transmission
this summer, to get over problems with an uncomfortably tight
turn around time for programmes to get their original airing in
Australia, and then to be sent to Ireland.
"We planned to bring back the series on 4 September and
requested the tapes from the distributor's office in Australia.
The RTE Guide had a special H&A feature lined up.
The first we knew of any problem was when the chief executive
of sales division in Australia emailed me on 15 August telling
me that they couldn't let us have the tapes for transmission before
July 2001.
I was shocked, as we have a contract which entitles us to transmit
these tapes now". "Since the date, I and
my lawyers have been working hard day & night to try and resolve
the issue and get H&A back on viewer's
screens this autumn as promised".
RTE has retained top city law firm Richards Butler, in London
to issue injunction proceedings against companies in both England
and Australia to get the programme tapes handed over immediately.
The start date for the new series has been put off until after
the Olympics". "Our aim is now to get this series by
Monday 2 October". Tim Dix
Home and Away in the UK
It may be off the screens in the UK until July 2001, but the
Summer Bay Stars are coming to the UK to help re-launch the Soap
on Channel 5. Every single cast member will travel to the UK.
Expect them to arrive around 15 July 2001. Kristin Mjåvatten

I don't think Shauna or Gavin are guilty. This is what I reckon:
After the twins and Duncan and Nick saw Ailsa and Shauna fighting,
Shauna kept on running and had nothing to do with it. Duncan went
up to Ailsa and started bagging her out for calling his sister
names. Then, Duncan and Ailsa started arguing and Ailsa slipped
and fell while this was happening and Duncan ran off, really scared
that he would be caught. That would explain Duncan's reaction
every time someone mentions the incident, his reason for defending
Shauna and being sure she didn't murder Ailsa. So, even though
it was an accident, Duncan is hiding this little secret! That's
just what I reckon could have happened. What do you think??
Shauna Is Accused Of Murder
Shauna's involvement with a married man was bound to end in disaster,
but as a murder suspect!
Shauna (Kylie Watson) and Gavin have been sneaking around Summer
Bay ever since Shauna succumbed to Gavin's charms. Gavin even thinks
he is falling in love with Shauna.
Keeping a secret in Summer Bay is no easy feat. Alf predicted if
he guessed Shauna and Gavin were more than friends, it would only
take time before Ailsa, Gavin's wife would work it out...
Sure enough Ailsa is outraged when she discovers Gavin is having
an affair and warns him if she ever finds the two of them together
again, he won't be able to see their child. Shauna and Gavin attempt
to 'uninvolve' themselves but they miss each other way too much.
Fresh from her argument with Gavin Ailsa crosses Shauna jogging.
The two females end up in a heated debate. Gavin turns up at the
surf club looking for Ailsa. She hasn't returned to the car following
the argument.
When Gavin still hasn't found Ailsa, he calls on Alf to set up a
proper search. The searchers still haven't found Ailsa by nightfall.
The next morning a searcher calls Gavin over to a cliff top - he's
found Ailsa's lifeless body at the bottom!
Shauna and Gavin are prime suspects over Ailsa's death. Was it suicide
or is there a murderer in the Bay?

Hey, did anyone else watch Blue Heelers? Roger Oakley popped up
again, this time as a fireman. Is that the 3rd character he's played
on Blue Heelers? Anyway, isn't he meant to be signed with the ABC
for 'Something in the air'? That's weird. Who else has played 3
different characters in the same show within a year? He always plays
the fireman, he has been playing that role in the occasional episode
since around this time last year. So he hasn't played 3 different
characters, although I do think it is strange that he is on Something
in the Air as well. I don't think ABC is as strict with its contracts,
since it is not a commercial station, so maybe that is why he can
keep appearing on Blue Heelers.
Sam has just left Summer Bay again after returning for a week.
He has changed a lot and turned into a real sleaze. At this stage
he is definitely not a champion surfer!
I wrote directly to ITV boss David Liddiment 2 months ago with
a strong letter playing ITV at their own game, passing the book
right back to them. After 8 weeks ITV didn't respond, and it took
for me to re-send the letter recorded delivery a week ago to get
them to reply.
Unfortunately, ITV are being even more stubborn that I thought
by insisting C5 take the break until their contract expires in
July 2001, and flatly refusing to listen to any attempts at negotiation.
Channel 5 are still trying to negotiate with ITV, their last statement,
on 4 August, read 'There is no news yet on when Channel 5 will
be showing the series Home and Away'.
In the meantime, here is the letter that I received from ITV
yesterday, and my views in response to what ITV said. If anyone
wishes to comment, or has any ideas or suggestions as to what
we could do next, then please let us know!
Dear Mr Dix
Thank you for your letter of August 12 which David Liddiment's
office has passed to me. I am sorry that it has taken longer than
normal to respond to your extremely detailed letter of June 18.
It is clear that you have very definite views on Home And Away
- none of which are either correct or we agree with. I stand by
the letter you have already received from us explaining the position.
I also categorically refute the allegations you have made doubting
the integrity of ITV.
* ITV wanted to keep the series.
* Seven Network Australia decided to come to an agreement with
Channel 5
knowing that such a deal would lead to the series being off UK
TV screens
for a year.
* ITV did not wish to make Home And Away a co-production between
ourselves
and Seven Network Australia.
* It was not our fault that we lost the series.
The cost of the proposed new deal from the Seven Network Australia
for Home And Away, meant that as Britain's favourite channel,
we had to be sure that we were getting a series which could be
compared to those other ITV drama serials - which we are justifiably
famous for and very proud of.
Seven Network Australia have made more money from their deal
with ITV over Home And Away than any other. As a result of this
and our proven track record in being screening quality dramas
serials, we felt that it was entirely appropriate to ask for some
more involvement.
What was also a great concern to us was that as the producers
of the programme were asking for a lifetime series deal, we needed
guarantees about the quality of Home And Away. We asked for input
into the script writing process, not to become co-producers as
you claim.
Agreement could not be reached and Seven Network Australia decided
to sell Home And Away to Channel 5, knowing that this would cause
the show to be off air for a period since ITV had a contract through
until July 2001. Channel 5 were fully aware of this contractual
situation.
The market for acquired programmes is, as we have already stated
in correspondence before, fiercely competitive. We have to know
that contracts provide some protection, which is why ITV must
stick to the letter of our contract.
If we had been successful in negotiating a new deal, then the
series would be on air now. As it is, the show has been sold to
Channel 5, so ITV is enforcing its contract. ITV is now in the
process of developing an all-new, British made drama serial to
replace Home And Away, which will be further proof of our commitment
to British actors, writers and other television talent.
We hope to make a further announcement about this new venture
in the near future and believe that if you give this new series
the opportunity to establish itself, you will eventually agree
that we have made the correct decision.
Yours sincerely,
Paul Tyrrell
Head of Press and PR.
The first thing in the letter that ITV said to instantly put
me offside is that my very definite views on Home and Away are
wrong! ITV have a right to disagree with me, but not to say that
my views are wrong!
ITV then went to go and express their worries that as 'Britain's
favourite channel', they wanted to ensure Home And Away was up
to the same standards of their own productions, and wanted to
be involved in the script writing to guarantee the quality of
Home And Away. If ITV were this concerned about the
quality of Home And Away, then why did they unnecessarily edit
every other episode, which often severely damaged the quality
of the storylines, especially when the amount of material edited
was so much that the
transmitted storylines didn't flow properly? Also, by cutting
the closing credits down to a few seconds severely affected the
presentation of the show, just for the sake of showing an extra
minute of adverts. The full version of Home And Away WITH the
credits was already over two minutes shorter than ITV half-hour
productions, but ITV had to make it three minutes shorter to cram
in even more ads and trailers.
With this appalling presentation, which has been witnessed by
the Home And Away producers, it's not surprising that they didn't
want ITV to have it any longer! To top all this off ITV then wanted
to muscle in and ask to be involved in the script writing, casting,
and content of Home And Away to ensure its 'suitability' for the
ITV time slot. In other words they wanted to take the scissors
to the ORIGINAL production! They try and justify this by saying
that Seven Network have made the most money with overseas sales
of Home And Away from ITV, so they should let them be a part of
it. It's not surprising that Seven Network wouldn't allow ITV
to move in like this. As far as I can see, having the kind of
input that ITV wanted in the production of Home And Away would
have made them CO-producers
ITV treat Home And Away appallingly, then got greedy and refused
to sign a new deal unless they could have a say in its production.
It WAS ITV's fault that they lost the series!!!
ITV's contract didn't provide them with any protection whatsoever
when it came to losing Home And Away. They only have themselves
to blame. The reason ITV are sticking to their contract is to
punish Seven Network for refusing to sell Home And Away to ITV
under ridiculous terms, to punish Channel 5 for being the station
who were prepared to buy Home And Away under reasonable terms,
and to give them the unfair advantage of getting their replacement
show on air before Channel 5 can start showing Home And Away,
in the hope of poaching some of Home And Away's more casual viewers
who haven't lost
interest and drifted away after the long break. Of course the
totally innocent party in this sorry situation is the viewers,
who at the end of the day count for everything. The fans of Home
And Away
had no control over this situation whether you look at it from
Channel 5 or ITV's point of view.
I'm sure you already know all the details about Sally's wedding.
Elsewhere the biggest new development has been the arrival of
the Sutherlands who have taken over the caravan park. The Father,
Rhys, is an ex AFL football player, and the Mother, Shelley, is
a social worker who's been talked into helping out at the drop
in centre. They have three teenage daughters. Dani is the oldest,
she has dreams of becoming a singer, except for one minor hurdle,
she can't sing! Will has been helping her to practice and looks
like he may end up getting involved with Dani if she stops playing
hard to get. She's not happy about having to leave the city for
Summer Bay leaving behind her now ex boyfriend Kel. Comparing
Dani to other characters, she's probably most like Gypsy. The
other two daughters Jade and Kirsty are twins. Jade is a really
likeable character who's nice to, well everyone. She was bitten
by a funnel web spider and had to spend the night in hospital.
Duncan caught the spider so they could use it for identification
purposes. Jade was very grateful for this and got together with
Duncan. Kirsty is into skateboarding, and so far has managed to
trash Don's tail light and almost kill Alf tearing around! She
likes Nick and he likes her, but unlike Jade, played very hard
to get. She eventually got together with Nick after letting him
put his arm around her.
Elsewhere Hayley and Mitch are still struggling to get the drop
in centre up and running and Gypsy has scored a job at the drop
in centre. Ken and Irene are engaged to be married, but I understand
tragedy strikes when Ken is killed in an accident at the garage.
I've not seen this yet though so more details in 2 weeks time.
Vinnie and Leah are still on together. Sally has taken the failed
wedding very badly and has developed OCD (Obsessive Compulsive
Disorder) where she has to constantly tidy up and wash her hands.
Luke, Kieran's best man at the wedding returned and helped Sally
get over her problem. They almost got together. Ailsa, played
for a while by stand in Nancye Hayes, finally told Shauna that
she is her natural mother. She didn't say that she was raped by
a prison warder but that the father was (a doctor or scientist
I think it was?) who is now in Germany. Shauna has now accepted
things and Duncan is pleased to have her as his half sister, even
though he tried to kiss her once! Joel and Judith have started
seeing each other, but I don't think this lasts. Don was interested
in Judith but Joel has beaten him to it. Edward had the gene test
which was positive, he has Huntington's disease. He and Peta have
now left for Rome. Colleen's long lost husband Les returned, played
by Rob Steele who played Chloe's Father. Colleen wasn't pleased
to see him because he ran off with another woman 12 years ago,
and when he returned he was a homeless dero. He's now managed
to talk his way back into Colleen's house. (thanks to Tim Dix)
