Summer of discontent
Stone the flamin' crows! Word is that dark and stormy skies are
hanging over Summer Bay, beloved haven of Seven's long running
soap Home and Away. Insiders say that the show's on-screen
dramas have been nothing on the off-screen ones going on since
just before Christmas, when long-serving and highly-respected
producer Russell Webb was suddenly replaced by someone of much
less experience. The announcement is said to have left senior
members of the crew in tears and in the week that the new producer
has been at the helm since filming began for the new year the
crew and cast have apparently not got any happier. Indeed, talk
is circulating that the series, now in its 15th year on air and
which continues to rate well both here and in Britain, may not
be long for this world. As well as the loss of Webb, script producer
Ray Harding - who had been with the show for 14 years - was shifted
from the program late last year. "We're all expecting a slow downhill
slide in the ratings once the results of the changes kicks in
over the next couple of months," said one mole. Morale on set
is, in fact, said to have become so bad we hear that one senior
cast member, with the series since the beginning, has decided
not to renew his contract.

Shannen falls for Dannii's ex
They were recently co-stars in an American TV series, but there
was no acting between Shannen Doherty and Julian McMahon on a
Caribbean holiday. Former Beverly Hills 90210 star Shannen,
30, and Aussie actor, Julian, 33, who was once married to Dannii
Minougue, showed during a break on the island of St Barts that
their working relationship has developed since they starred in
a sorcery series called Charmed. More recently, they've
worked together on a movie called Another Day and the couple
are said to have fallen for each other during filming. Julian
is currently divorcing his second wife Brooke Burns, who starred
in Baywatch. Shannen was married for six months to actor
George Hamilton's son Ashley in 1993.

Stars in the commercials
Les Hill and Stephen Leeder are in an ad currently showing on
Ten for Panasonic. It seems that Les is playing a bad guy who
grabs an item and manages to get away from the police, as he appears
to be played by Stephen. Les played the character of Blake in
the early years while Stephen pops up now and then as Inspector
Carter. (30/7/01)
Anna Hruby has already been on the ad for Continential meals for
months.

Unfair Play
Poor Dannii Minogue. First her boyfriend, musical producer Michael
Edwards-Hammond, dumped her for a 21-year-old model, and now he's
given his new girlfriend her job. Life was going so well for the
29-year-old. She had the starring role of Esmerelda in Notre
Dame de Paris, and was dating the show's dashing producer,
Michael. But things quickly went downhill, when Michael ditched
her for glamorous model Sarah Whitefoot. So devastated was Dannii
by the split that she opted not to sign a new contract, which
expires in August, for the show. But she never imagined that her
replacement might be Sarah, who has never performed in a major
stage show before, and is likely to require serious voice coaching.
Insiders say Dannii is "deeply upset" by the development. "Edwards-Hammond
ditched her", says one cast member. "The next thing we know, we
get a memo saying that Sarah Whitefoot's got the part and we have
to be nice to her and ease her in." But in a bizarre move, possibly
aimed at persuading Dannii to stay until August, another of the
show's producers is saying they haven't found a replacement.
